Pilot Census

Pilot Census 2009

Pilot Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in the Republic of Serbia was conducted in the period between 1 to 15 April 2009. The Pilot census was conducted in 36 municipalities and 40 settlements, on the sample of 50 enumeration areas (what amounts to 0.1% of the total number of the enumeration areas). The Census covered 10.628 persons and 4.262 dwellings.

The aim of the Pilot Census was to, through the simulation of all census activities, checks prepared methodological and organizational solutions in order to promptly eliminate all the possible shortcomings and to train statistical and IT personnel for conduction of the Census in 2011.


Education of Roma

Pilot Census of population, households and dwellings from 1-15 November 2009 – Education of Roma

In the period from 1-15 November 2009, Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), conducted research “Pilot Census of population, households and dwellings in 2009 – Education of Roma”.

Pilot census was conducted in 24 enumeration areas where was, according to the Census of population, households and dwellings in 2002, recorded the high participation of Roma in total population. Pilot census covered about 2500 housing units and 8000 persons.

The main aim of Pilot Census was to educate certain number of Roma for active participation in organizational preparations and field implementation of the Census of population, households and dwellings in 2011. Beside that, it was of great importance to establish mutual trust and cooperation between official statistics and organizations dealing with Roma issues, which is the base for gathering quality data on total number of Roma in the Republic of Serbia, as well as on basic socio-demographic characteristics of this ethnical group.
